Call for Entries into IAGTO Sustainable Golf Awards

Jonathan Smith and Peter Walton - IAGTO awardsNow in their fourth year the 2017 IAGTO Sustainability Awards recognise clubs which have shown outstanding commitment and action in the three pillars of sustainable golf –Nature Protection, Resource Efficiency and Community Value.

As well as awards for individual clubs in each of these three categories the 2017 awards see the launch of a new award for golf Destinations. The Sustainable Destinations Award is open to groups of five clubs or more that are collectively working to reduce their impact and increase their value to the environment and their local community.

“We are thrilled to once again be working with our partners at Golf Environment Organization (GEO) on these prestigious awards” said IAGTO Chief Executive Peter Walton. “The Sustainability awards have caught the eye of IAGTO members and we encourage all clubs, big and small, to get involved and get recognised for the positive work that they do”

“We’re particularly excited about the new Sustainable Destinations Award this year, the introduction of which really shows how the sustainable golf movement is taking hold and how collaborative working has been, and will continue to be, key to that. The two examples of golf destinations collectively working toward sustainability which were showcased at the launch of this new award last year, Hilton Head Island in South Carolina and The Algarve in Portugal, demonstrate the great Press Release work which is already going on across some of the worlds top golfing destinations. We are delighted to be able to highlight and encourage this through this new award.”

“The IAGTO Sustainability Awards give facilities and resorts of all sizes the opportunity to celebrate their environmental and community work on the global stage” said Jonathan Smith, CEO of GEO, the not-for-profit dedicated to helping advance sustainability in and through golf. “We encourage IAGTO members from around the world to get involved and gain recognition for their valued contributions.”

In addition, the the four awards open for entries which celebrate achievements in the past year, a special Outstanding Commitment Award will also be presented during the 2017 IAGTO Awards Ceremony in November to a club selected by GEO and IAGTO for their exceptional contribution and long term commitment to environmental and social value.

Entries are now open for the 2017 IAGTO Sustainable Golf Club of the Year Awards for the Nature; Resources; and Community, along with the inaugural IAGTO 2017 Sustainable Destinations Award at . The closing date for entries is 2nd September 2016 and winners will be announced at the IAGTO Awards Ceremony on 17th November 2016 in Mallorca, at the climax of the International Golf Travel Market.
