Spectrum Service Solutions, specialists in event cleaning, have been appointed to provide cleaning and waste management at The 2014 Ryder Cup.  They will work with William Tracey Group, specialist in recycling, to provide a ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ event. They will join a long list of Scottish companies that have won a contract to work with golf’s most prestigious event held at Gleneagles this September.

Spectrum Service Solutions has significant experience of major events; having provided cleaning and recycling services at Hampden Park for over 8 years where they have worked on the Olympics 2012, Scottish Cup and major concerts such as Robbie Williams, Take That and Bon Jovi.  Spectrum Service Solutions and William Tracey Group have worked together recently to provide services to other large scale events like The Great Scottish Run, the Scottish Open Championship at Royal Aberdeen, and BBC at the Quay this summer.

Spectrum’s Managing Director, Sara Speirs said, “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract.  It is a major event in the world’s sporting calendar and it signals the realisation of our aim to become Scotland’s premier event cleaning company.  We are already established in many other sectors for contract cleaning, facilities management and specialist cleaning, and management of waste, however this latest win highlights our versatility and understanding of all the markets we operate in.”

Together Spectrum Service Solutions and Glasgow based William Tracey Group, will gather and recycle an estimated 500 tonnes of waste left by up to 45,000 spectators each day. The partnership is set to deliver the first ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ Ryder Cup in history.

Commenting on its appointment, William Tracey Group’s Managing Director Non Hazardous Waste, Robin Stevenson said, “We are delighted to be working again with Spectrum Service Solutions at The 2014 Ryder Cup to deliver this ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ event.  The Ryder Cup provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase everything that is great about this country and an important part of this is Scotland’s position as a global leader in recycling and sustainable resource management.”

Spectrum Service Solutions and William Tracey Group’s preparations are already underway for the event in late September at the world famous Gleneagles Hotel. The Events Management Team are working closely with Ryder Cup Europe to ensure every detail is meticulously planned and expertly executed.

Antonia Beggs, Operations Director, Ryder Cup Europe, said, “With The 2014 Ryder Cup showcasing Gleneagles and Perthshire to the world, it is imperative that we ensure the area is kept clean and presented as its stunning best. The appointment of Spectrum Service Solutions and William Tracey Group, as Scottish firms with a great track record of resource efficiency and major sporting events is perfectly aligned with our own corporate responsibility and sustainability ethos.  We are particularly pleased by their support to deliver a Zero Waste to landfill event.”

Iain Gulland, Director of Zero Waste Scotland added his support to the announcement:  “The events sector is an important focus area for the Scottish Government, given the volumes of waste that can be generated but also because of the opportunity they present to engage and raise awareness amongst so many people.  We are impressed by the voluntary and proactive approach Ryder Cup Europe have adopted, and pleased to have been able to support in this significant step towards zero waste events in Scotland.
