Lusaka Golf Club takes steps to create its sustainable future

Lusaka Golf Club in Zambia have begun collaborating with international non-profit
GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf to safeguard the long-term sustainability of the club, its future development, and its growth towards becoming a sustainable golf flagship venue in Zambia.

As the club goes through some major improvements to the course, clubhouse and business activities, GEO Foundation will provide long-term support to the club for the foreseeable future, helping to deliver a world leading sustainable golf roadmap for the club and for future generations of Lusaka golfers.

This working partnership will help ensure that the course improvements to the greens, irrigation system and practice ground are carried out in a sustainable manner and to the highest standard, while also giving the club confidence in decision making through GEO Foundation’s unbiased independent advice.

The work is currently focused on the ongoing course improvements with golf expert Robert Richardson and his team at TeeToGreen, as well as future planned investments to the clubhouse and surrounds with investors.

"The club is excited by the new planned developments and this is an important moment for us in the rich history of the club. We look forward to working with the international team to create a world-class golf facility in the heart of the Zambian capital, Lusaka," said Arthur Ndhlovu, Chair of the Project Implementation Committee at Lusaka Golf Club.

During the trip to Zambia, GEO Foundation spent time with club members, staff and representatives in order to better understand the club’s vision for a quality course and club environment. The future enhancements will include increasing the quality and biodiversity of the club’s land, reducing further water demand and promoting an inclusive and thriving clubhouse atmosphere.

“It was a pleasure to be shown around this historic and beautiful golf course in the centre of the city,” said Tyler Annan, Project Manager of Golf Development at GEO Foundation. “A real passion for golf can be felt here. Having spent this time at Lusaka Golf Club, it was clear to see the potential for the club and the qualities it possesses.

“It was encouraging to see that Rob and his team on site shared a sustainable vision for the club and were aligned with the principles of sustainability - particularly with the majority of the workforce being locals. GEO Foundation is delighted to be working with Lusaka Golf Club and looks forward to a long working partnership with the club, helping it on its sustainability journey.”
