We are committed to social and environmental responsibility, in and through golf.

GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Edwards Aquifer with Protection Controls The course is constructed over the Edwards Aquifer, a highly sensitive drinking water source serving over 7 million people. Management operates under strict aquifer protection requirements and externally imposed chemical restrictions specific to the recharge zone.
  • Zero Off-Site Water Discharge No water leaves the property. All surface water is captured and reused on site, with surface water testing conducted twice annually and quarterly well sampling by SAWS.
  • Large-Scale Turf Reduction and Native Naturalisation Significant turf reduction and naturalisation efforts are underway, including non-irrigated native plantings and reduced managed acreage, with buffer zones observed across the site.
  • Irrigated Acreage Reduced at Practice Facility In 2024, irrigated acreage at the practice facility was reduced from 25 acres to 7 acres, significantly lowering water demand.
  • Winter Turf Painting to Reduce Irrigation Winter painting of tees, greens and fairways on the Canyon Course reduces irrigation requirements during dormant periods.
  • Hybrid and Robotic Maintenance Equipment Greens mowers are hybrid, and robotic mowers and robotic ball pickers are used on the practice facility to reduce fuel use and labour inputs.
  • Valero Texas Open Charitable Impact The Valero Texas Open hosted at the course generates significant charitable contributions to local and national organisations.
  • University and Youth Engagement The facility hosts numerous youth and junior tournaments and serves as a practice facility for UTSA, supporting youth and collegiate golf development.
