2024, for renewal 2027

TPC Boston is unique in that it regularly hosts high profile professional and amateur golf tournaments for both men and women. These events generate a lot of money for charitable organizations and bring a lot of economic activity to the local community. This is a highly visible golf course that is also water and energy efficient and leads by example in its sustainability. The golf course and associated structures and impervious sit on a very large property - more than 439 acres. Of that, the area of maintained turf is relatively small compared to the native grasslands, native habitat, open water, and wetlands – 138 acres maintained vs. 278 acres native. The club is very willing to naturalize more of the maintained turf in the future. The club also does a good job mapping and respecting the regulated wetlands and, when required, creating new wetlands to mitigate for wetlands lost due to e.g. bridge construction. The maintenance staff tries to maximize turf health while minimizing water use, fertilizer and chemical applications through mechanical practices, by applying the latest turf research, and by using very accurate GPS sprayers. There are additional opportunities to generate renewable energy, electrify the maintenance fleet, provide more vegetative buffers around open water, and communicate and educate internally and externally about environmental and sustainability initiatives but, on balance, the management and staff at TPC Boston does an exemplary job as stewards of their land.
