Sustainable Golf Pledge

We are committed to social and environmental responsibility, in and through golf.

We recognize the importance of playing our part to protect and restore nature, conserve resources, take climate action and strengthen communities.

We will seek to use our reach to raise awareness and positive action amongst golfers, partners and the wider public.

We will make an important difference, and help golf become a valued leader in sustainability.

GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Formal Estate Conservation Plan The estate is managed under a Nature Conservation Management Plan (2025–2029), supported by habitat mapping and biodiversity records across woodland, wetlands, grassland and chalk stream habitats.
  • Chalk Stream and Wetland Protection Management specifically safeguards the River Gade chalk stream corridor, wetlands, and sensitive areas near Whippendell Woods SSSI, guided by specialist conservation input.
  • Partnership with Wildlife Trust Conservation planning and delivery are undertaken in collaboration with the Hertfordshire & Middlesex Wildlife Trust, shaping habitat objectives and practical management.
  • Closed-Loop Wash Water Treatment Machinery washdown water is managed through a closed-loop waste-to-water treatment system, with no discharge to surface water or the foul sewer.
  • Defined No-Spray and No-Spread Buffers Protective buffer zones are maintained around water bodies, wetlands and ecologically sensitive habitats to reduce pollution risk from course operations.
  • Soil Testing and Biological Amendments Turf management is informed by regular soil testing, supported by targeted use of biostimulants and organic amendments to strengthen soil function and minimise unnecessary inputs.
  • Open Access Model The facility operates an open-access model rather than a traditional membership structure, supporting inclusive use for golf, events and wider estate activities.
  • Multifunctional Recreation and Education The site integrates golf with woodland walks, landscaped grounds, events, wellbeing activities, and partnerships with schools and colleges linked to environmental management and education.
β€œ

β€œThe site continues to demonstrate strong progress across environmental management, resource efficiency and community engagement, underpinned by a clear understanding of its responsibilities and a willingness to invest in long-term improvement. In particular, the depth of ecological management, informed by specialist advice and supported by practical delivery on the ground, provides a solid foundation for sustainable operations. There remain clear opportunities to build on this progress through further formalisation of procedures, enhanced monitoring and reporting, and increased interpretation and engagement to share outcomes with a wider audience, strengthening both performance and leadership in sustainability.”
