Sustainable Golf Pledge

We are committed to social and environmental responsibility, in and through golf.

We recognize the importance of playing our part to protect and restore nature, conserve resources, take climate action and strengthen communities.

We will seek to use our reach to raise awareness and positive action amongst golfers, partners and the wider public.

We will make an important difference, and help golf become a valued leader in sustainability.

GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Detailed Habitat and Species Inventories The club has a nature management plan supported by inventories of flora and fauna, including mosses. A final mushroom inventory records 95 mushroom species across the course.
  • Active Protection of Badger and Sand Lizard A badger sett on the course is fully respected, with damage only repaired once foraging activity subsides. Bare sandy areas are deliberately created and kept open for sand lizards.
  • Historic Avenues and Cart Tracks Maintained Old avenue structures and historic cart tracks are identified in the management plan, actively maintained, and explained to members during annual excursions.
  • Annual Soil Testing and Targeted Fertilisation Soil samples from greens are taken every year, and fertilisation plans are based directly on the results, supporting soil health and avoiding over-application.
  • Drought-Resilient Grass Overseeding Greens are overseeded with grass species selected for drought tolerance, wear resistance, and rapid recovery, while existing grass species are largely preserved.
  • Spot Spraying to Reduce Chemical Use A new spot sprayer is in use, significantly reducing the volume of plant protection products applied. Outbreaks such as dollar spot are monitored and only treated when thresholds are exceeded.
  • Large Volunteer Involvement A large number of volunteers are actively involved in caring for the course and supporting biodiversity, working alongside the greenkeeping team.
  • Broad Sustainability Engagement and Communication Members and staff are engaged through activities such as moss walks, bird counts, newsletters, the website, on-course QR codes, and clear communication around waste separation.

“The Rosendaelsche golf course is a very natural course situated near the Veluwe, the Netherland’s largest nature reserve. The natural environment is clearly reflected on the course, with the greenkeeping team and dedicated volunteers working together to take care for the course and its biodiversity. Sustainability efforts are also reflected in the facilities, such as the waste separation system introduced in 2023. In addition to implementing the steps identified in the 2020 energy scan, there are also opportunities for switching all lighting to LED. The team, volunteers, and members contribute collectively to a golf course where sustainability practices are highly valued.”
