GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Large Areas of Native “Kuntta” Habitat Around 1 hectare of traditional Finnish “kuntta” ground cover habitat has been retained across the course. Heather, blueberry, lingonberry, crowberry and mosses provide flowers and berries that support pollinators and birds.
  • Minimal Managed Turfgrass Footprint Only 4.6 hectares of the 15-hectare site are maintained turfgrass, with the remainder consisting of woodland, heathland, meadows and lakes. Maintained areas were reduced further during the planning process.
  • Protected Natural Features Within Play Areas A natural rocky hillock containing lichen, moss and heather has been preserved within the course and designated as a hazard area where ball retrieval is prohibited. A wooded hill in the centre of the site has also been left entirely in its natural state.
  • Advanced Sensor-Based Irrigation System The irrigation system uses 10 online moisture sensors, a weather station and individual sprinkler control to support targeted watering. Greens also include dedicated connection points for manual irrigation when required.
  • Electrified and Robotic Course Maintenance Most maintenance machines are electric, and robotic mowers are already in operation on the course. The facility also uses electric vehicle charging and online monitoring of electricity consumption across key systems.
  • Solar Power and Heat Pump Buildings A total of 108 solar panels are installed across the clubhouse and maintenance facility roofs. The maintenance building is heated and cooled using an air-to-water heat pump, while the clubhouse uses geothermal heating.
  • Multi-Sport Recreation Partnerships The club works with local paddling and tennis clubs to create combined activity packages for visitors and corporate groups. Paths around the course are also used by local residents for walking and cycling.
  • Designed as Part of Future Rock Resort The facility is positioned as a future central hub within the wider Rock Resort area connected to the 2027 Housing Fair development. The golf course was planned alongside wider recreational and community use of the surrounding landscape.

“Sustainable development practices have been well incorporated into the planning and operation of the 9-hole par 3 facility. Maintained turfgrass area is minimised, and there are large areas of low or no maintenance grass meadows, kuntta (natural ground cover vegetation) and pine woodland. Resource efficiency is very high, thanks to the modern irrigation system, electrified and robotised machine fleet, heating/cooling of buildings with heat pumps and well-organized waste management. The club collaborates with other local recreation providers. I’m looking forward to seeing a habitat management plan, further advances in electrifying and robotising golf course maintenance, and active environmental and sustainability communication and engagement with the club’s present and future stakeholders.”
