We are committed to social and environmental responsibility, in and through golf.

We recognize the importance of playing our part to protect and restore nature, conserve resources, take climate action and strengthen communities.

We will seek to use our reach to raise awareness and positive action amongst golfers, partners and the wider public.

We will make an important difference, and help golf become a valued leader in sustainability.

GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Habitat Creation and Species Protection Flying squirrel habitats have been identified and protected, and over 100 bird boxes installed. The Seaside course pond has been enhanced to act as a natural biofilter and spawning ground for pike, showing strong ecological stewardship
  • Expanding Meadow Areas Large areas of rough have been converted into natural meadows, especially on the Forest course. This reduces maintenance, improves aesthetics, and provides habitat for pollinators and birds
  • Smart Irrigation Upgrades A new irrigation system on the Seaside course allows individual sprinkler control and daily soil moisture-based scheduling, cutting water use while maintaining playing quality
  • Electrification and Renewable Energy Plans Pickala is electrifying maintenance equipment, already purchases 100% carbon-free electricity, and plans solar panels for upcoming renovations
  • Waste Management Leadership The club has a comprehensive recycling system across all facilities, with clear signage and online waste tracking to optimise collection schedules
  • EV Infrastructure Multiple EV charging stations have been installed for members and guests, complementing fleet electrification and supporting Finland’s clean transport goals
  • First-of-its-Kind School Golf Program From autumn 2025, local Grade 8 students can take golf as a school elective—the first program of its kind in Finland—through a partnership with the municipality, Finnish Golf Union, and Pickala
  • Volunteer Culture and Tournament Hosting Pickala’s volunteer network is strong, with senior golfers helping course upkeep and 250 volunteers supporting the Ladies European Tour event in 2023

“Pickala Golf is moving forward in a wide front to incorporate responsibility and sustainability into all aspects of its operation. Progress has been made in nature conservation, resource management and community outreach. Naturalising many out-ofplay areas and protecting key species, electrifying the course maintenance fleet and actively communicating on sustainability issues are examples of actions that have produced solid and visible results. These activities are backed by competent and dedicated management and staff, as well as active and committed members. A major endeavour will be the complete renovation of the Park course in 2025–27. Seeking GEO certification for this development is another proof of Pickala's commitment. I look forward to seeing the updated nature survey, rescue plan and energy audit, as well as the results of the ongoing projects like the school collaboration and responsibility strategy implementation.”
