Sustainable Golf Pledge

We are committed to social and environmental responsibility, in and through golf.

We recognize the importance of playing our part to protect and restore nature, conserve resources, take climate action and strengthen communities.

We will seek to use our reach to raise awareness and positive action amongst golfers, partners and the wider public.

We will make an important difference, and help golf become a valued leader in sustainability.

GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Pollinator Research Collaboration Oslo Golfklubb collaborated with NIBIO from 2017 to 2020 on a project to benefit flowering plants and pollinators by thinning areas of rough. The club has continued contact with NIBIO and has used the project to naturalise more managed rough.
  • Naturalised Rough for Biodiversity Areas of managed rough with little or no play are allowed to grow up to support biodiversity. Previously managed nettle areas are also left to grow and flower to attract peacock butterflies.
  • Insect Habitat and Working Group A sustainability working group made up of employees and members works with habitats on the course, including birds, trees and insects. A large insect hotel is also present on the course.
  • Advanced Irrigation and Leak Detection The course uses an up to date pumphouse and irrigation system to calculate water needs accurately. The system includes weather analysis and leak detection, supported by monthly pumphouse reports and daily checks.
  • Efficient Water Use in Buildings Low flow taps, urinals and showers are installed throughout the facility. Daily water leakage is also monitored.
  • Energy Efficient Clubhouse The new clubhouse, built in 2020, includes modern systems designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce consumption compared with the previous clubhouse. The facility also uses modern thermostats, timed lighting and energy efficient bulbs.
  • Winter Community Use In winter, the driving range is transformed into an ice skating rink and used by the local Bandy club. The course also supports wider winter recreation such as skiing and dog walking when conditions allow.
  • Cancer Awareness Tournament The club holds a yearly tournament to raise money and awareness for cancer research. This provides opportunities for volunteering and support for cancer charities.

“Oslo Golfklubb continues to lead the way for Norwegian golf clubs in terms of sustainable practice. Safe and clean maintenance facilities, collaboration with research projects, waste treatment and energy efficiency, show a genuine determination to be a sustainability trailblazer, not only in the industry, but in the wider community.”
