Sustainable Golf Pledge

We are committed to social and environmental responsibility, in and through golf.

We recognize the importance of playing our part to protect and restore nature, conserve resources, take climate action and strengthen communities.

We will seek to use our reach to raise awareness and positive action amongst golfers, partners and the wider public.

We will make an important difference, and help golf become a valued leader in sustainability.

GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Protected Habitat & Biodiversity Mapping Located next to the Stora Lund Nature Reserve and part of the Natura 2000 network, the club has mapped 13 high-value habitat areas and identified 46 conservation species, including protected birds, amphibians, lichens, and fungi.
  • Targeted Habitat Enhancements: Ombergs maintains birdhouses, insect hotels, wild bee sand beds, and fauna depots. The ecosystem supports natural acorn-based duck feeding, reducing the need for mechanical clearance in oak areas.
  • Turfgrass Transition: A five-year program transitioned fairways to fescue and greens to creeping bentgrass, reducing irrigation and disease risk. The approach minimises nutrient input and favours turf health through drought and disease resistance.
  • Renewable Energy & Smart Storage: The club powers most buildings with solar and geothermal energy and has produced 3,000 MWh from on-site wind and solar. A 0.3 MW battery stores energy for peak efficiency, and 30 EV chargers support green transport.
  • Efficient Irrigation & Water Monitoring: The course uses minimal water, guided by soil moisture sensors, mobile-controlled Rain-Bird software, and weather-informed scheduling. Building fittings include low-flush toilets and water-saving taps.
  • Ethical Purchasing & Circular Materials: A clear policy prioritizes local and eco-labelled goods, especially in the restaurant, which avoids red-listed seafood. A dedicated recycling zone stores surplus construction materials and technical equipment for reuse.
  • Community Access & Activities: Beyond golf, the resort offers paddle tennis, spa, yoga, hiking, fishing, and a large exhibition hall. It occasionally hosts dance events and wellness retreats, making it a year-round destination for varied audiences.
  • Sustainability Governance & Staff Engagement: A formal sustainability group (owners, managers, and experts) oversees progress. Staff are well-informed and trained in sustainable practices. Detailed policies cover safe employment, mental health, and emergency planning.
“

“Ombergs Golf Resort is a fantastic facility characterized by meticulous care and attention to detail in every aspect. In recent years, significant resources have been allocated to the expansion and reconstruction of the facility to increase its capacity for accommodating more overnight guests and conferences. The company has a strong-willed management and a comprehensive sustainability policy and purchasing policy. I look forward to following its progress in achieving its goals and compliance with policies, and seeing the company's continued strong contributions to sustainable development. However, the company is too modest in communicating its sustainability activities and could enhance its communication with guests and the broader community. The golf course is managed with a very high level of expertise for the grass surfaces, and the long-term work to strengthen the grass and adapt to climate change has yielded good results. I look forward to following the results that the upcoming management plan will bring to the natural areas and the company's continued development for biodiversity.”
