Notable Observations

  • Heathland Habitat Restoration and Management The course actively maintains and restores heathland habitats, including around 1,000m² of managed heather and wider acid grassland conditions, reflecting the local landscape character.
  • Structured Species Recording and Monitoring More than 50 wildlife species have been recorded across the site, supported by participation in national bird and butterfly counts and ongoing ecological monitoring.
  • Integrated Habitat Features Across the Course Habitat enhancements include wildflower areas (33 species recorded), log piles, and nesting infrastructure such as bird, bat and owl boxes, all integrated into course management.
  • Composting Using Local Organic Waste Streams Grass clippings, leaves and recycled coffee grounds (including from a local café) are composted and reused on site, with the first application implemented on the driving range in 2024.
  • Strategic Shift to Fine Grass Turf Composition Turf management is transitioning toward fine grasses, with Agrostis species increasing from approximately 50% to 65%, supporting reduced inputs and improved drought resilience.
  • Targeted Naturalisation of Low-Play Areas Out-of-play areas are allowed to develop into long rough and tussock grass, particularly over winter, reducing maintenance inputs while supporting invertebrate habitats.
  • Active Engagement with Educational and Community Partners The club maintains engagement with educational institutions and community groups, including opportunities such as work experience, internships or apprenticeships.
  • Inclusive Participation and Accessibility Measures Membership policies are non-discriminatory, and facilities include accessibility provisions and mobility equipment to support inclusive participation on the course.
