2025, for renewal 2028

Notable Observations

  • Ecological Habitat Network The course supports woodlands, wetlands, and rough grasslands. Recent work has expanded naturalised roughs between holes, enhancing ecological corridors and habitat diversity.
  • Regular Wildlife Surveys The club carries out seasonal biodiversity surveys and is preparing to add amphibian monitoring in 2025. Bird boxes and insect hotels are already in place to support species on site.
  • Smart Irrigation In one of the UK’s driest areas, Nizels uses soil moisture sensors and targeted irrigation only on greens, tees, and key fairways. Fescue turf helps reduce water demand.
  • On-Site Solar Power A solar PV system powers part of the clubhouse’s electricity use. The system is actively monitored to assess performance and potential expansion.
  • Chemical Use Aligned with IPM All spraying is risk-assessed, logged, and performed by licensed staff. Decisions are based on pest thresholds and visual scouting to minimise use.
  • On-Course Interpretation and Signage The club has introduced wildlife-friendly features with on-course signage to help inform members about habitat efforts and sustainability practices.
  • Local Charity Events and Themed Fundraisers Nizels runs regular events to raise funds for local causes, with strong participation from staff and members. These events reinforce the club’s local connections.
  • School Workshops and Regional Links The club delivers hands-on environmental education sessions for local schoolchildren and participates in a regional sustainable business network, strengthening knowledge sharing.
