Notable Observations

  • 200,000 m² Nature Reserve: The property incorporates approximately 200,000 m² of nature reserve, with trails through native vegetation. The surrounding landscape includes a Special Protection Area for Wild Birds, with species including Bonelli’s eagle and Eurasian eagle-owl identified locally.
  • 5.92 Hectares Naturalised: Around 5.92 hectares have been naturalised or restored over the past decade, including 4.2 hectares converted from managed turfgrass. This reduces the area requiring intensive irrigation and maintenance.
  • Mediterranean Replanting: Naturalisation includes a wide range of Mediterranean vegetation, with approximately 550 Pinus halepensis trees planted, particularly around holes 7 and 8. Indigenous and locally adapted plants are progressively replacing other vegetation across the course.
  • 100% Reclaimed Water Irrigation: The golf course uses 100% reclaimed water for irrigation, reducing reliance on freshwater resources. Irrigation is managed using weather data, evapotranspiration, soil-moisture measurements and targeted hand-watering.
  • Solar Power for Maintenance and Pumping: Solar photovoltaic panels at the maintenance facility provide electricity for the facility and contribute to powering the golf-course water-pumping system.
  • 100% Electric Buggy Fleet: The club’s golf buggy fleet is 100% electric, reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Las Colinas is also introducing electric robotic mowing for rough areas and transitioning landscaping and gardening equipment towards electric alternatives.
  • Inclusive Football Partnership: A long-term partnership with the Real Madrid Foundation Inclusive Football School supports young people with intellectual disabilities and functional diversity. Established in 2024 and renewed in 2025, activities have included golf, hiking and shared community events at the resort.
  • Community Learning and Recreation: Las Colinas extends beyond golf through tennis, padel, swimming, walking and cycling, alongside charitable and community activities. Sustainability engagement has also included guided visits for University of Alicante students and nature-based activities.
“

“Las Colinas Golf & Country Club demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability, with notable highlights in water stewardship, biodiversity and resource efficiency. The use of 100% reclaimed water for irrigation, precision irrigation technologies, progressive naturalisation of the golf course and investment in renewable energy and electric equipment demonstrate a practical and well-integrated approach to sustainable golf management, with clear opportunities for further improvement through continued formalisation, monitoring and measurement of environmental performance.”
