We are committed to social and environmental responsibility, in and through golf.

GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Biodiversity Mapping and Management Natural and naturalised habitats across the course have been mapped to support specific management. This work forms part of an environmental restoration and biodiversity enhancement study developed through the R&A Sustainable Agronomy programme.
  • Expanding Natural Habitat The area of environmentally managed natural habitat has increased by 2.30 hectares since 2021. Holes 2 and 11 have also been redefined to integrate more closely with their natural surroundings and reduce management requirements.
  • Protecting Important Wetland Wildlife The course's wetlands attract breeding, wintering and foraging species associated with nearby protected wetland areas. These include the white-headed duck (Oxyura leucocephala), an endangered species in Spain with high conservation priority in Europe.
  • 100% Reclaimed Irrigation Water All irrigation water is obtained from the Torrevieja water treatment plant. Irrigated areas are kept to a minimum, with the redesign of holes 2 and 11 also reducing the surface area requiring water.
  • Precision Irrigation Management A local weather station is connected to the irrigation software to adjust daily watering, while moisture sensors are regularly used across different areas to refine irrigation accuracy. The irrigation system is also monitored annually to identify potential malfunctions.
  • Electric Mowing and Solar Charging Autonomous electric robotic mowers have been introduced to maintain rough areas. Solar panels have also been installed on the clubhouse specifically to recharge golf buggies.
  • Sharing the Course's Wildlife A dedicated poster and leaflet have been produced to showcase the fauna found on the golf course. These materials help communicate the site's wildlife and biodiversity work to golfers and visitors.
  • Supporting Local Charities The club holds annual events to raise funds for local charitable institutions. This sits alongside a strong calendar of social events at the facility.

Since the previous certification, the course has strengthened its sustainability performance through updated biodiversity work, habitat mapping and management, communication materials on local fauna, naturalisation of selected areas, soil improvement with natural mulch, the introduction of autonomous electric robotic mowers, cleaner mobility supported by plug-in electric vehicles, and the installation of solar panels for buggy charging.
