We recognize the importance of playing our part to protect and restore nature, conserve resources, take climate action and strengthen communities.

GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • AI-Assisted Wildlife Monitoring Bird and frog species are being surveyed using AI-assisted and automated on-site recordings. This builds on an extensive bird species survey completed in 2024, with recommendations now being implemented to support bird habitats.
  • Lake Kytäjärvi Restoration Partnership Kytäjä Golf participates in a multi-stakeholder initiative to improve the quality of nearby Lake Kytäjärvi. Newly created wetlands filter phosphorus from river water flowing from agricultural areas through the course before it reaches the lake.
  • Biodiversity-Focused Habitat Management Large meadow areas are cut only once a year, while forested areas are minimally maintained with dead and fallen trees left in place. These practices support a varied landscape of meadows, forests, open water and reeds.
  • Data-Led Course Management Soil analytics, Soil Scout sensors, clipping weights and pH monitoring are used to guide maintenance decisions. This data supports decisions on turf growth, nutrient levels, soil condition and fertiliser use.
  • Upgraded Precision Irrigation The irrigation system has recently been upgraded with improved controls, sprinkler selection and sprinkler placement. Dedicated irrigation technicians use software, pumping station data, moisture sensors and weather information to apply water efficiently.
  • Solar-Powered Robotic Mowing A total of 188 solar panels were installed in 2022, with additional panels later added on the SE course to provide electricity for robotic mowers. Robotic mowing also enables more targeted mowing and helps reduce managed turf areas around features such as tee boxes.
  • Local School and Sports Club Links Nearby school pupils use the course for physical education golf practice, and a winter skiing track is made for the school when conditions allow. Local sports clubs are also employed for tasks such as cleaning golf carts and filling divots.
  • Charity and Sustainability Communication The annual JK Charity tournament raises funds for local disadvantaged children. Sustainability is also shared through the club’s stakeholder magazine, website responsibility section, clubhouse certificate display and published Highlights.
