We are committed to social and environmental responsibility, in and through golf.

We recognize the importance of playing our part to protect and restore nature, conserve resources, take climate action and strengthen communities.

GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Extensive Native Planting & Habitat Integration: The course is built on reclaimed land and surrounded by active farmland, with significant native planting across riparian and buffer zones. Only indigenous species are used to enhance ecological stability.
  • Protection of Sensitive & Endemic Species: Practical conservation efforts include nest avoidance for oyster catchers and plovers, a nesting platform for crested grebes, and monitoring of native teal ducks and skinks. Beehives are discreetly integrated to support biodiversity.
  • Managed Turf Reduction & Landscape Naturalisation: The course has reduced managed turf areas by expanding naturalised roughs and integrating native groundcover, helping to lower inputs and support ecological diversity.
  • Efficient Irrigation with Precision Technology: The course uses moisture sensors (POGO), evaporation transponders, weather stations, and targeted hand watering to optimise water use. Irrigation is limited to essential playing surfaces.
  • Responsible Fertiliser & Pest Management: A “teaspoon” foliar approach is used, with organic products (e.g., Trichoderma, seaweed, Bio Amp), daily scouting, and hand weeding to minimise chemical dependency.
  • Compliant Hazardous Substance Management: The club meets all New Zealand hazardous substance requirements with secure storage, spill plans, bunded wash zones, and licensed contractor disposal.
  • Public Access via the Queenstown Trail: The site supports 25km of trails for walking and mountain biking, including the Jack’s Point Trail along Lake Wakatipu—an integrated recreation area open to the public.
  • Work Experience & Local Engagement: The club supports local high school work programs, hosts school charity events, and shares tools/resources with other clubs. Past awards are proudly displayed to promote awareness.
