Notable Observations

  • Wetland Conservation: Infinitum protects and monitors the 17-hectare Sequia Major wetland, a Red Natura site, through monthly visits, bird census studies, and endangered species tracking, including the fartet fish and Galápago Europeo turtle.
  • Warm-Season Turf Transition: The club is progressively replacing water-intensive cool-season grasses with warm-season species (e.g., bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, paspalum), reducing irrigation needs and increasing drought resilience.
  • Integrated Habitat Support Around 100 bird and bat houses are installed, and buffer zones protect sensitive areas. Structures have been placed to support endangered bird species such as the Cerceta pardilla.
  • 100% Wastewater Irrigation & Desalination: The entire resort is irrigated using reclaimed water from the Vila Seca treatment plant, with on-site desalination and SCADA monitoring systems to optimize use.
  • Transition to Electric & Hybrid Equipment: Infinitum has invested in hybrid mowers and electric utility vehicles, reducing fuel use by 8% and lowering emissions from course maintenance operations
  • Solar Energy Integration: Solar panels on the desalination plant roof and solar-powered golf course toilets contribute to a 16% reduction in electricity use.
  • Birdwatching & Educational Access: The wetland observatory is used for school visits and birdwatching (outside nesting season), promoting environmental awareness and recreational use beyond golf.
  • Promotion of Young & Female Greenkeepers The club is actively promoting women in turfcare, with a female deputy course manager and a training program with Ohio State University to develop young greenkeeping talent.
“

“Infinitum Golf keeps demonstrating outstanding responsibility in the use of natural resources, setting a benchmark in sustainable golf course operations. Renewable energy now accounts for a 16% reduction in electricity consumption thanks to the installation of solar panels. The shift to electric maintenance equipment has also led to an 8% reduction in fuel usage. Most notably, water use has significantly decreased over the past five years due to a reduction of irrigated turf and the progressive introduction of warm-season grasses that require less irrigation. The ongoing renovation of the Lakes and Hills courses is further reinforcing the sustainable vision, as both layouts move toward the adoption of low-waterdemand, warm-season turf varieties. Furthermore, Infinitum is also preserving Sequia Major habitats and endangered species. These efforts underscore the club’s strong environmental ethic and its leadership in resilient, forward-thinking golf course management.”
