Notable Observations

  • Large-Scale Wildflower & Habitat Creation: Several hectares have been sown with native wildflowers to encourage insect life. Coarse compost and deadwood are also left undisturbed to enhance biodiversity.
  • Integrated Turf Management with Robotic Mowing: The club uses drought-tolerant grass species and robotic mowers to reduce water, pesticide, and fuel use. Mowers also cut grass finely, aiding natural fertilization.
  • Partnership-Driven Biodiversity Planning: The club works closely with the municipality to enhance biodiversity and protect priority species, ensuring habitats are adapted with ecological awareness.
  • Precision Irrigation & Water Source Management: Only greens, tees, and partial approaches are irrigated, using weather-informed software and efficient sprinklers. Irrigation draws from a non-potable on-site borehole.
  • LED Lighting & Energy Audits: 90% of lighting has been converted to LED, with the remaining upgrades scheduled. The club conducts annual energy audits and plans further efficiency upgrades in 2026.
  • Waste Sorting & Circular Purchasing: Waste is separated according to local authority protocols. The restaurant prioritizes European wines, organic produce, and other local and regional products.
  • Veteran Rehabilitation & Social Integration Program: Around 20 war veterans participate in a successful club program aimed at improving mental health and reintegration. Many have become event volunteers.
  • Paragolf, Inclusivity & SDG Communication: The club has hosted Danish Paragolf Championships, encourages a diverse membership, and shares its SDG efforts with members, guests, and local stakeholders through well-designed communications.
“

“Hørsholm Golf has implemented a number of initiatives over the years to reduce the environmental impact from managing the course. As a result, the environmental impact from the use of pesticides, water and fertilizer has been reduced to a very low level. Initiatives are being introduced to increase biodiversity on the course, most recently in the form of areas where coarse compost is left unattended. Establishment of several hectares of large areas of wildflowers has begun and it is the hope that this area will significantly increase the number of plants and especially insects on the course. The club has always had a special focus on the social element of golf. The most recent notable initiative is a project to improve quality of the daily lives of war veterans. Around 20 veterans are currently participating in this initiative, and it has even been possible for the veterans to be volunteers at social events at the club which shows how effective the program is.”
