GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Large-Scale Shoreline Protection The club has invested significantly in shoreline protection by installing GEO bags along the full beach edge to protect against storm damage. Erosion protection has also been installed within creeks and lakes across the property.
  • Highly Naturalised Course Design The vast majority of the golf course has been naturalised, with only essential playing surfaces maintained. Grass lines are regularly adjusted to align with sprinkler arcs and reduce unnecessary water use in naturalised areas.
  • Active Nesting Bird Protection Nesting birds are actively protected whenever nests are found on site. Sensitive habitat areas are clearly protected using rope and stake systems, which also help reduce turf wear and compaction.
  • Organic and Local Turf Inputs The club uses Suståne organic granular fertiliser alongside seaweed-based organic products as part of its turf programme. It is also moving away from imported liquid fertilisers in favour of locally sourced soluble alternatives.
  • Advanced Irrigation Management The irrigation system uses Cirrus Pro software, a weather station and Pogo moisture probes to guide watering decisions. Daily sprinkler audits are recorded, and hand watering is used alongside programmed irrigation to improve accuracy.
  • Large-Scale Solar Installation A total of 16,528m² of solar panels have been installed across the wider property. These help power the site’s facilities beyond the golf course itself.
  • Storm Recovery Support and Local Charity Following major cyclones, Hoiana has provided food and volunteers to support local storm clean-up efforts. Through its “Hoiana Cares” programme, the club also maintains an annual fund for local healthcare charities focused on paediatric care.
  • School Running Programme The club has hosted a running training programme with local schools. This forms part of its wider outreach and community engagement activities.
