GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Habitat Mosaic Across the Course The course contains a mix of habitats including wildflower meadows, open sand areas, open water, woodland edges, stone piles and deadwood piles. These features are maintained across different areas of the site as part of regular management. Habitat areas are clearly differentiated from intensively managed turf.
  • Low-Input Meadow Management Wildflower meadows in rough areas are not fertilised and are cut once or twice per year. Cuttings are removed after mowing. Some areas, such as ruderal zones, are cut only once annually.
  • Nest Boxes for Target Species Nest boxes for species such as the hoopoe (Upupa epops) are installed across the course. Additional bird habitat structures are also in place. These are part of wider habitat measures across the site.
  • Irrigation Limited to Playing Areas Irrigation is restricted to greens, tees and fairways. Rough and other extensive areas are not irrigated. Localised dry areas are managed using targeted hand watering.
  • On-Site Solar Energy Use Solar panels are installed on site. These provide part of the club’s electricity demand. The system contributes to the overall energy supply of the facility.
  • Irrigation Based on Soil and Weather Data Irrigation scheduling is based on soil moisture checks and weather forecasts. Sprinklers are adjusted to target playing surfaces. The irrigation system is regularly maintained and calibrated.
  • Public Walking Routes Through the Site Public walking paths run through the site along the Suhre River. Seating areas are provided along these routes. The clubhouse restaurant and facilities are also open to visitors.
  • Member Volunteering in Maintenance Club members support course maintenance through voluntary work alongside the greenkeeping team. Participation is driven by member interest in course upkeep. Activities are carried out on a voluntary basis.
