Notable Observations

• Wildflower & Amphibian Habitat Projects The club maintains naturalised roughs, wildflower meadows, and an important amphibian habitat on hole 14. It plants 10 trees annually to replace diseased ones with climate-resilient species.
• Old Fish Farm Naturalisation: An acquired plot with a disused fish farm has been restored into a naturalised area, adding ecological variety to the course.
• Low-Input Turf & Pest Management: The greens are maintained with reduced fertiliser and fungicide use, trialling more sustainable grass species and relying heavily on mechanical care and disease scouting.
• Efficient Irrigation with Moisture Sensors The modern irrigation system includes individual sprinkler control, moisture sensors, and a connected weather station. Surfactants and penetrants improve water efficiency.
• Solar Power Integration: Solar panels have been installed on the clubhouse and toilets. The club uses software to monitor and manage energy consumption and is exploring further installations.
• Comprehensive Waste & Hazardous Material Management: Hazardous materials are carefully stored, tracked, and disposed of via licensed contractors. Mowing residues are composted off-site, with internal records of waste volumes kept.
• Fruit Harvesting and Community Gifts: Staff harvest apples and pears from on-course trees to make juice and liqueur, which are shared with members and the local community, including a seasonal dinner party for local residents.
• Charity & Neighbour Collaboration: The club hosts an annual charity event supporting a children’s hospital, offers land to farmers for grazing, and maintains good relations with local hunters during their season.

The team, led by a passionate head greenkeeper, is improving environmental management practices during the last years. They are aware of the need to do things a little better every day and proof of this is that the facility has been transformed over the past number of years to improve their course playing conditions and environmental credentials. Wildflower meadows, naturalized roughs and maintained turf are professionally managed, along with creating awareness of the local habitat and biodiversity. This is highlighting the importance and effort made by the club in the new biotope that has been created.
