Notable Observations

• Naturalised Roughs and Meadows Some rough areas have been naturalised with grasslands and wildflower meadows. These areas are only cut once per year, following protocols set by local and national authorities.
• Habitat Features for Wildlife Pruning remains are piled in natural areas to create shelter for mammals and amphibians. Overgrown and low pond edges are also retained to protect species living in small water habitats.
• Working with Pro Natura The club has worked for several years with Pro Natura, Switzerland’s oldest nature conservation organisation. Native tree species are prioritised when planting.
• Microorganisms and Organic Fertilisers The club uses mainly organic fertilisers, including granular and liquid applications. Beneficial microorganisms have also been used for several years as part of the turf management programme.
• Minimal Chemical Use The Head Greenkeeper scouts the course daily and only treats when disease is considered a major problem. This year, only two curative fungicide treatments were carried out on the greens.
• Water Efficient Irrigation Fairways do not have an irrigation system, while greens and tees are managed through central computer control, block sprinklers and a weather station. Wetting agents are also used during hotter months to help optimise irrigation.
• Open Access Putting Course The 18-hole putting course is open to anyone, allowing new players to start golf from day one. The club also runs free introductory golf lessons every two weeks.
• Greenkeeper-Led Member Education The club organises days during the year where greenkeepers explain their work and the golf course to members. Public paths through the facility are also used by local residents for walking and running.

An interesting facility different from the conventional golf club that actively attracts and promotes golf in the region. The Club is aware of the need to do things better every day and proof of this is that the facility has been transformed over the past years improving its environmental credentials. New trees, naturalized roughs and maintained turf are professionally managed, along with creating awareness of the local habitat and biodiversity.
