Notable Observations

  • Wetland Restoration and Enhancement In 2024, the Allmend wetland and parts of Chrusenweid were ecologically enhanced under the cantonal Impulsprogramm, improving reed communities and wetland habitat quality.
  • Bamboo Removal to Restore Open Grassland A bamboo-invaded area left of hole 9 was fully restored: vegetation was mulched and removed, and the site is now maintained as open grassland, preventing regrowth and improving habitat structure.
  • Orchard Meadows and Historic Farmstead Traditional orchard meadows and the nearby Sitenhof farmstead are maintained as part of the region’s cultural landscape and biodiversity heritage.
  • Habitat Connectivity with New Hedgerows Along fairway 4, the club has established natural hedgerows as part of the Canton of Lucerne’s ecological connectivity project, improving movement routes for wildlife.
  • Recycled Aeration Cores Used for Sanding Aeration cores from greens are recycled on site and reused as part of subsequent sanding, closing a material loop and reducing imported sand demand.
  • Wastewater Heat Recovery and Minergie Clubhouse The clubhouse is built to the Minergie standard and includes a wastewater heat recovery system, significantly lowering energy demand.
  • Organic Waste Used in Herb Garden Certain organic materials, such as coffee grounds, are reused directly in the clubhouse herb garden as a nutrient source, demonstrating small-scale circularity.
  • Multifunctional Recreation: Trails, BBQ Sites and Disc Golf The course offers multiple public amenities: walking paths such as the Laternenweg, two public BBQ areas, and even hosts a Disc Golf tournament, making the site a valued local recreation area beyond golf.
“

“Golf Meggen continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to ecological quality, careful resource management and community value. The collaboration between the greenkeeping team, local experts and the municipal partners is evident across the site. Recent habitat enhancements, including wetland restoration and structural improvements, show clear progress and a long-term vision for nature stewardship. The course provides an excellent example of how high-quality golf and environmental responsibility can be successfully combined.”
