Sustainable Golf Pledge

We are committed to social and environmental responsibility, in and through golf.

We recognize the importance of playing our part to protect and restore nature, conserve resources, take climate action and strengthen communities.

We will seek to use our reach to raise awareness and positive action amongst golfers, partners and the wider public.

We will make an important difference, and help golf become a valued leader in sustainability.

GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Archaeological Site Actively Excluded from Management An ancient Guanche archaeological settlement beside hole 2 is legally protected and deliberately excluded from all maintenance and treatment activities,.
  • Turf Replaced with Volcanic “Picon” Zones Underused irrigated turf has been removed and replaced with native volcanic stone (“picon”) areas on holes 15 and 17, reducing irrigation demand and maintenance inputs.
  • GPS-Guided Identification of Low-Use Turf GPS trackers in buggies are used to identify low-traffic areas of play, directly informing decisions on where turf can be removed and converted to non-irrigated surfaces.
  • 100% Regenerated Water for Irrigation All irrigation water comes exclusively from regenerated water sources, with no use of potable water, monitored daily via flow meters and internal records.
  • Gravity-Fed Irrigation Reducing Energy Demand The irrigation system uses gravity rather than energy-intensive pumping, significantly reducing energy consumption while maintaining pressure consistency across the course.
  • Precision Irrigation Control Advanced Cirus Pro central control software allows irrigation timing to be adjusted with precision, informed by on-site weather data, soil moisture mapping (POGO, TDR), and in-ground Soil Scout probes.
  • Environmental Management Verified Through ISO 14001 An ISO 14001 environmental management system has been in place since 2004, covering all activities, services and facilities, providing a formal and audited framework for sustainability delivery.
  • Long-Running Youth Training and Employment Pathway Students from the public gardening school “Guía de Isora” receive annual on-site training, with many progressing into employment at the club, creating a direct skills and jobs pathway.
“

“Golf Las Américas demonstrates a structured sustainability approach underpinned by its ISO 14001 environmental management system and visible sustainability communications. Operational controls and compliance practices are well established, providing a solid framework for responsible management across the facility. Nature and heritage values are recognised and protected. Key habitat areas are maintained where buffer zones and vegetated margins support wildlife. Multiple protected endemic species of flora and fauna are present, and they actively safeguard an ancient Guanche archaeological site adjacent to hole 2 by excluding it from maintenance and treatment activities. Water stewardship is a major strength. Irrigation is supplied exclusively by regenerated water and is monitored daily through flow meters and internal records, supporting accurate consumption tracking and leak detection. Efficiency is enhanced through a data-driven irrigation programme using on-site weather information, moisture mapping, and high-precision central control scheduling, complemented by targeted sprinkler upgrades, drip irrigation in landscaped areas, and gravity-based irrigation that reduces energy demand. Continuous improvement is evident through ongoing turf and input optimisation, including trials and a planned transition of greens to warm-season bermudagrass, supported by an on-site nursery. The Club is also reducing irrigated turf by converting low-traffic areas into non-irrigated “picon” zones.”
