Notable Observations

• Long-Term Biodiversity Mapping The club has worked with an external biodiversity specialist since 2015, producing multiple reports with detailed habitat and vegetation maps. A biologist visits the site every two years.
• New Biotope Created on Hole 1 A new biotope lake has been created on hole 1 by repurposing an old broken drainage line, maintaining naturally damp conditions and increasing habitat diversity.
• Habitat Features for Wildlife Natural areas include branch piles, planted natural points, and protective buffer zones around lakes and wetlands, providing shelter for insects, amphibians, and small mammals.
• Orchid Areas with Information Panels Specific natural zones where orchids grow are clearly marked and supported by on-course information panels explaining their ecological value to golfers and walkers.
• Rainwater Lakes Supply All Irrigation Three rainwater catchment and drainage lakes provide 20,000 m³ of storage, supplying all irrigation water for the course and avoiding the need for external water sources.
• Natural Grass Areas Reduce Energy Use Large areas of natural grass are left uncut or cut only once per year. Some are managed by local farmers or grazing sheep, significantly reducing mowing and fuel demand.
• Bunker Conversion and Storm-Resilient Design Ten bunkers have been converted into grass bunkers, and renovated bunkers now include a stabilising base layer that reduces storm damage and repeated repair work.
• Beehives and Local Food Production Two on-site beehives are maintained by the greenkeeping team, producing around 35 kg of honey, strengthening pollination and local food connections.
