Notable Observations

  • Extensive Wetlands & Biotope Integration: The course meanders through wildflower meadows and wetland ponds linked to the River Limmat, creating valuable fish and amphibian habitats actively surveyed by the canton.
  • Microhabitats & Bird Structures: Numerous brush piles, duck boxes, and birdhouses—including for kingfishers and eagles—have been installed to support a wide range of local wildlife.
  • Low-Input Turf & Mechanical Maintenance: The greenkeeper uses minimal chemicals, relies on mechanical techniques, spoon-feeds nutrients, and uses Syngenta tools for disease risk mapping, keeping turf healthy and sustainable.
  • Irrigation Efficiency from Pond System: The irrigation system draws water influenced by the River Limmat's level. Greens, tees, and fairways are irrigated using moisture sensors and weather-informed scheduling, with plans for further efficiency upgrades.
  • Geothermal Heating & Hybrid Equipment: The buildings use ground-source heating, and the club runs hybrid mowers and electric carts. Solar is under review for future implementation.
  • Solid Waste Management & Local Purchasing: Waste is fully separated for recycling. The restaurant minimizes packaging and uses local suppliers where possible. Older equipment is reused or sold to other clubs.
  • Community Access & Social Hub: The clubhouse is a popular local restaurant and event space, while parking is shared with a neighbouring cement factory and local clubs use the space for meetings.
  • Training Centre & Inclusion Efforts: As one of Switzerland’s elite golf training sites, the club supports junior golfers and recently employed a Ukrainian refugee, with inclusive policies and good working conditions.
“

“This beautiful 9-hole golf course is managed with minimal fertilizer and chemical inputs and meanders through valuable patches of forest, wildflower meadows and biotopes with rich biodiversity and wildlife habitat. The energy efficient clubhouse is a local culinary hotspot for the surrounding community and the club is host to one of few elite Swiss Golf training centres. I look forward to seeing further irrigation efficiency and both internal and external communication on the club’s sustainability commitments.”
