Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

  • Biodiversity in a Compact Site: Despite being under 40ha, the course has a rich mix of trees and shrubs, giving it a "botanical garden" feel.
  • Zero-Pesticide Management: Due to its location over a protected underground aquifer, the club avoids pesticides, using alternative methods like iron sulphate and urea.
  • Riparian Zone Management: Works collaboratively to manage vegetation along a river corridor; exploring improvements for biodiversity enhancement.
  • On-Site Water Source: Irrigation uses water from a private well and storage ponds under local regulations.
  • Energy Conservation: Heat pump, underfloor heating, solar panels and recent energy audit through PEIK and Swiss Golf.
  • Participation: Incentives for older and younger members, with new membership fee structures.
  • Green transport: Access via public transport with bike racks available for those choosing to cycle.

“The Golf Club Lugano is a beautiful compact golf course with a wide variety of vegetation. A zero-pesticide alternative pest management programme is followed with limited resources due to the course siting over an underground aquifer. The clubhouse is open to the public and is well used throughout the year. The club has hired a communication specialist to help with vision and communicating their sustainability commitment into the future. I look forward to seeing continued reduction in water consumption and some more focused habitat management with the help of a future flora and fauna survey.”
