Sustainable Golf Pledge

We are committed to social and environmental responsibility, in and through golf.

We recognize the importance of playing our part to protect and restore nature, conserve resources, take climate action and strengthen communities.

We will seek to use our reach to raise awareness and positive action amongst golfers, partners and the wider public.

We will make an important difference, and help golf become a valued leader in sustainability.

  • Collaboration with BirdLife Switzerland for Species Monitoring The club works with BirdLife Switzerland to conduct structured bird monitoring, which has recorded more than 50 nesting species. This supports targeted ecological protection and informed decision-making.
  • Tree Maintenance Combined with Habitat Structure Although tree management is primarily safety-driven, undergrowth is encouraged and clearings are maintained, adding to the diversity of ecological structure on the course.
  • Conservation of Species-Rich Meadows and Protected Orchids The club protects semi-natural grasslands and wildflower meadows that host a wide diversity of flora, including legally protected orchid species, contributing to landscape-level biodiversity.
  • Clubhouse and Restaurant Renovation for Energy Efficiency Upgrades to the main building — including improved insulation and glazing — have helped reduce overall energy demand and improve indoor conditions.
  • Irrigation Sourced from Etang-Long Lake with Efficient Application The irrigation system draws water from Etang-Long lake, stored in an open reservoir, and applies it efficiently using weather stations and soil probes, targeting only greens, tees, and fairways.
  • Omega European Masters as a Platform for Sustainability The club uses its role as host of the Omega European Masters to showcase sustainable practices to a wide audience, strengthening visibility and engagement around environmental stewardship.
  • Involvement of Staff and Members in Sustainability Culture Sustainability is embraced across staff and membership, supported by internal communication and a club culture that aligns with broader Alpine values of care for land and nature.
  • Public Access to Footpaths and Natural Areas The club maintains access to public footpaths and surrounding natural areas, allowing local residents and visitors to enjoy the landscape, enhancing the club’s community value beyond golf.
“

“The Golf Club Crans-sur-Sierre continues to provide a world-class layout while keeping inputs to a minimum and focusing on important cultural practices. The club is supported by an experienced biologist who has undertaken detailed flora and fauna surveys and is helping guide numerous habitat and biodiversity projects over the long term. The club is also supported by a sustainability consultant who has been a key player in managing the sustainability vision for the club, coordinating with the club management and the biologist as well as developing other projects to improve energy and resource efficiency for both the facility and the Omega Masters tournament. I look forward to following their ongoing sustainability projects in the coming years, to continually improve the nature, resource and community aspects of this flagship golf club in Switzerland.”
