We are committed to social and environmental responsibility, in and through golf.

We recognize the importance of playing our part to protect and restore nature, conserve resources, take climate action and strengthen communities.

GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Independent Ecological Inventories Every Three Years Flora and fauna have been inventoried every three years by ecological consultancy NL consultants, with reports including recommendations to further develop natural value.
  • Protection of Naturally Occurring Orchids Different types of orchids have been found on the course for several years, and their locations are cordoned off with tape to protect them.
  • Active Habitat Enhancements The dike is sown with an indigenous seed mixture; many bird boxes (including for kestrel and barn owl) have been installed; branch rills are created and maintained annually; insect hotels are present; and several pools are maintained annually.
  • Robotic Fairway Mowing and Efficient Pumping Fairways are mowed using robotic lawnmowers, and a more energy-efficient irrigation pump was recently installed.
  • Wetting Agents and Targeted Irrigation Wetting agents are used to reduce water consumption, and the sprinkler system is aimed only at the playing field.
  • Building Energy Improvements Implemented The clubhouse uses LED lighting, and the roof has been renewed with significantly improved insulation.
  • Strong Volunteer Structure There are 150 volunteers involved in the club, organised across 23 committees.
  • Inclusive Access and Disability Support The club operates a golf program for disabled players and has purchased a Paragolfer adapted wheelchair. Youth under 18 can become members free of charge if an older member is also a member, and the driving range is freely accessible and free of charge.

“Golfclub Liemeer is a close-knit and open association that radiates that it is there for everyone. The beautiful course fits well into the landscape, with characteristic nature, with which the playing field is tightly but neatly integrated. The skilled and passionate greenkeepers (together with the many volunteers) have transformed the place where brussel sprouts were grown 20 years ago into a much more natural environment, in which many flora and fauna species have found a place. Further improvements for this part of the nature are easily achievable without too much effort and in terms of sustainability there are ambitious plans for the planned future renovation of the club building.”
