GEO Certified

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Drone Imagery Used to Understand the Landscape The club has carried out drone flights to capture aerial imagery of the course, helping the team monitor habitats and landscape features.
  • Protected Riverbank and Viper Awareness The riverbank is legally protected under the facility’s water abstraction permit, and customers are advised not to disturb the vipers that live on the course — an established species in this Nordic coastal ecosystem.
  • Native Trees Prioritised in All Planting Only native tree and shrub species are planted, including oak, birch, maple and hazel, ensuring vegetation remains true to the local landscape.
  • Moisture Meter Reduces Water Use by 30% After introducing a soil moisture meter 2–3 years ago, the club has reduced irrigation demand by about 30%, supported by nighttime watering and weather-based scheduling.
  • Solar-Powered Robotic Mowers The course uses solar-powered robotic mowers on the range and wider course areas, lowering energy demand and reducing the need for collecting golf balls before mowing.
  • Locally Produced On-Site Materials and Zero Plastic The club builds many course structures itself using recycled wood, and states clearly that no plastic is used on course signage and infrastructure.
  • Winter Cross-Country Ski Trails Made by Greenkeepers In winter, the course becomes a cross-country ski venue, with staff preparing the ski tracks so they follow safe and appropriate routes through the property.
  • Annual Cancer Charity Event Each year, the club hosts an event dedicated to raising funds for cancer organisations, with all proceeds donated.

“Estonian Golf and Country Club has always had a tradition of making sustainable choices and investments. The mindset has always been to reuse and recycle materials produced at the golf course. Over recent years, maintenance methods have been greatly modernized. Concrete examples are installations of solar panels and use of solar powered robotic mowers. In addition, course staff pay attention to water saving systems and the surrounding nature. They also organize charitable events - which is indeed heartwarming. This course is on a path to become a zero emission Golf Club.”
