Notable Observations

  • Urban Golf Course within Protected Landscape Dolder Golfclub Zürich lies within a protected landscape area on the edge of Zurich. The club works closely with Grün Stadt Zürich (GSZ) to ensure full legal compliance with nature protection requirements.
  • Biodiversity Mapping via GIS and GolfView Comprehensive GIS maps exist for geology, flora, fauna, and hydrology, and the course is integrated in GolfView, allowing visualization and tracking of habitats and natural values.
  • Native Grass and Soil Health Focus Annual turf analyses are conducted with UFA and SwissGreen to select resilient grass species and strengthen soil biology. Emphasis is placed on reducing reliance on chemical treatments.
  • Selective Irrigation Using Drinking Water Watering is limited to essential playing surfaces, with irrigation targeted to greens, tees, and high-traffic areas. This approach reduces overall consumption of potable water.
  • Robotic Mowers to Reduce Energy Demand Robotic lawnmowers introduced in 2025 now manage selected turf areas, lowering fuel use and cutting maintenance energy demand.
  • Safe and Compliant Handling of Hazardous Substances All fuel, fertiliser, and plant protection storage areas meet cantonal safety standards and are regularly inspected by the Zurich environmental office (AWEL) and labour inspectorate.
  • Annual Charity Tournament The club hosts a charity tournament each year, raising funds for local causes and strengthening its social role within Zurich.
  • Strong Cooperation with Grün Stadt Zürich Close collaboration with the municipal Nature Conservation Office ensures coordinated habitat management, fauna monitoring, and community trust in the club’s environmental work.

"The GC Dolder is located in a unique and prominent location on the outskirts of the city of Zurich. Aware of this privilege, both management and the greenkeeping team assume their responsibility to preserve the landscape, promote biodiversity and represent golf in a good light. The business is not managed, but rather developed in a sustainable and holistically sustainable way. In recent years, modernized infrastructure has minimized risks, improved work processes and complied with environmental standards. Thanks to increased attention to occupational health and safety, employment conditions have continued to improve. And thanks to the great willingness to cooperate between the club and the administration, the proportion of ecologically valuable areas can be continuously increased and at the same time the quality of stay can be increased without any significant restrictions on play. As a GEO verifier, I congratulate the club and its players on the successfully completed recertification. On the one hand, it is a testimony to the successful sustainability efforts, and on the other hand, it is a perspective for all the untapped potential that needs to be tapped in the near future.“
