Notable observations

  • Biodiversity Support: The 50-hectare course, enriched by 70,000 cryptomerias and natural lakes, provides critical habitats for migratory birds and diverse flora. However, a formal ecological survey is recommended to identify and protect key species.
  • Habitat Management: A turf reduction programme has converted 0.5 hectares into low-maintenance natural areas, promoting biodiversity while maintaining course playability.
  • Water Efficiency: The course employs spring water stored in reservoirs for irrigation and has implemented measures like partial-circle sprinklers and soil moisture analysis to reduce water usage.
  • Pollution Prevention: Plans are in place to upgrade the maintenance facility with an oil separator system by 2025, which will enhance runoff management and safeguard local ecosystems.
  • Community Engagement: The junior golf academy nurtures new talent, providing tailored coaching to young players in a supportive environment.
  • Educational Initiatives: Suggestions include offering guided walks and creating informative signage to engage visitors and educate them on the local biodiversity and history.

At Terceira Golf Course, maintenance practices emphasize a commitment to the environment by safeguarding natural habitats, using resources responsibly, and working in partnership with the local club to enhance the area's natural beauty. I am confident that the Terceira Golf Course team will continue to effectively integrate turf care with eco-friendly initiatives, ensuring an exceptional golfing experience while leading the charge for environmental sustainability.
