Sustainable Golf Pledge

We are committed to social and environmental responsibility, in and through golf.

We recognize the importance of playing our part to protect and restore nature, conserve resources, take climate action and strengthen communities.

We will seek to use our reach to raise awareness and positive action amongst golfers, partners and the wider public.

We will make an important difference, and help golf become a valued leader in sustainability.

Through becoming GEO Certified we have achieved the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf.  The international certification was earned after successfully meeting the industry-standard best practices and demonstrating our commitment to make sustainability of central importance to our golf facility.  We're proud of our social and environmental value - and looking forward to doing even more on our sustainability journey.

Notable Observations

  • Osprey Nesting and Fish Creek Habitat The course sits beside protected Fish Creek Park, with wildlife moving between the two areas. Osprey nesting poles on the course are occupied each year, with additional bird and bat boxes planned.
  • 40 Acres of Naturalised Land Around 40 acres have been reclaimed as naturalised areas through berm construction between holes and around ponds. Fourteen bunkers have also been removed, reducing intensively managed areas.
  • Soil-Led Turf Management Annual soil sampling and laboratory analysis directly inform maintenance decisions, supported by moisture monitoring and increasing use of the Deacon app. Daily scouting allows treatments to be targeted only where needed.
  • 60% Less Bunker Maintenance The club reports that Billy Bunker treatment has reduced bunker maintenance by around 60%. Course-traffic data from Tag Marshall is also used to identify and manage high-use areas.
  • Precision Bow River Irrigation Irrigation water is extracted from the Bow River and stored in two large onsite ponds. Satellite control, upgraded Lynx software, regular sprinkler checks and soil-moisture data support targeted irrigation of playing surfaces.
  • Solar and Electric Equipment Solar power is used for course water closets, while the range picker, Lil Devil mower and handheld equipment include electric options. The club is continuing to transition vehicles and maintenance machinery to electric where possible
  • Junior Golf Week Junior camps, senior leagues and women’s leagues provide a broad range of participation opportunities. A dedicated Junior Golf Week allows juniors to play for free.
  • Lil Devil Short Course The Lil Devil is a nine-hole course combining par 3, 4 and 5 holes ranging from 50 to 300 yards. It is designed to accommodate practice sessions and a wide range of golfers, including juniors, seniors and beginners.
“

“At Blue Devil and Lil Devil, the Superintendent and entire team are committed to meeting—and where possible, exceeding— environmental sustainability practices. The team recognizes that meaningful sustainability program begins with understanding and identifying environmental impacts, both positive and negative, and using that knowledge to guide responsible decisions and measurable actions. For Blue Devil, sustainability is not a destination or a checklist; it is an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement. They are proud of the work their teams are doing and remain dedicated to learning, adapting, and continually finding opportunities to reduce their environmental footprint while strengthening the health, playability, and long-term sustainability of their golf facilities.”
