We have partnered with Icelandic circular-economy specialists Pure North, beginning with the installation of an on-site composting machine in the clubhouse. This system transforms food waste into usable compost within 24 hours. The resulting material is applied across the golf course, mixed with sand and seed, to regenerate small bare areas such as divots, fairways, and walking paths.
‘We’ve seen that compost from our machines can stimulate strong plant growth, and we’re excited to see how it performs on the golf course,’ says Sigurður Halldórsson, CEO and founder of Pure North.
Þorláksvöllur was originally developed to support the restoration of Hafnarsandur, a degraded coastal landscape. ‘This makes our site an ideal location for a project like this, and for our collaboration with Sigurður and his excellent team at Pure North,’ notes Club Manager Árni Hrannar Arngrímsson.
He adds that guests also appreciate knowing that their food scraps contribute directly to improving course conditions. ‘We also hope that targeted compost use will reduce the need for synthetic fertilizers,’ Árni says in reference to the partnership.
