The golf course serves as a crucial habitat for numerous animal species throughout the year. To protect these species from unnecessary disturbances, the Bern section of the golf course was officially declared a “Cantonal Wildlife Sanctuary” in August 2024. This decision was made at the request of the golf course itself, in collaboration with the municipality of Bätterkinden and the local nature and bird protection association.
As part of the sanctuary designation, several important measures are in place to preserve the natural environment and protect wildlife. Dogs must be kept on a lead year-round across the entire area to prevent disturbances to both wildlife and other visitors. Additionally, there is a strict hunting ban, ensuring that the sanctuary remains a safe, peaceful space for animals to thrive without the threat of hunting or human interference.
