We've always maintained turf nursery areas, but two years ago, we seized the opportunity to reclaim one of our fields previously under a long-term lease from our farm within the wider estates. This move enabled us to develop 1.5 hectares of turf primarily designated for bunker revetment.
Additionally, we've allocated 5000 m2 of fescue turf for use in native areas, backings, and other naturalised spaces. This strategic allocation allows us to minimise the need for offsite turf sourcing to replace areas lifted for revetment, as we now seed these areas for reinstatement.
By producing turf onsite, we've gained greater control over inputs while simultaneously reducing our carbon footprint by minimising the distance turf needs to be transported. Moreover, this approach yields financial benefits by eliminating the need to purchase turf from external sources.
