The Senior Open at Carnoustie Golf Links in 2024 offered more than a week of world-class golf—it also demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability.
Throughout the event and derig, waste was minimised and resources repurposed to benefit the local community. Surplus food from vendors and hospitality areas was donated to the town’s foodbank, helping support those in need.
Decorative flowers from the event were replanted along the local cycle track, enhancing public spaces. Timber and wood from the event site were passed on to the Carnoustie Men’s Shed group for use in community projects.
In partnership with Binn Group, remaining materials were carefully sorted and recycled, with very little going to landfill.
These actions reflect the wider environmental values shared by Carnoustie and its event partners—proving that major sporting events can have a positive and lasting legacy.
