Sustainability at the heart of the Island Course redevelopment

Following an extensive redevelopment, SICC fully reopened all 18 holes of The Island Course in September 2025. The reopening represents more than the revitalisation of a historic course; it reflects SICC’s commitment to combining heritage, innovation, and sustainability. Building on nearly a century of history, the redeveloped Island Course incorporates world-class design, environmentally responsible technologies, and tournament-ready infrastructure.

The redevelopment integrated a range of innovative solutions, including SubAir and Toro Lynx irrigation systems to optimise turf health and water efficiency. EcoBunker technology was also incorporated into the course design, using recycled materials and providing a durable, long-lasting solution that reduces the resources required for ongoing bunker maintenance.

Biodiversity was another important consideration, with more than 90% of replanted vegetation comprising native species to strengthen habitat connectivity and support local wildlife. Fallen trees were also thoughtfully repurposed into tee markers, buggy exit signs, and distance markers, reducing waste while retaining elements of the course’s natural heritage.

Together, these measures demonstrate how the redevelopment has integrated sustainability into the long-term management and design of The Island Course while preserving its distinctive character and heritage.
