More than one hectare of species-rich wildflowers and seed-bearing cereals has been established to create dedicated habitat for corn buntings and other farmland wildlife. These areas provide valuable resources for invertebrates during the summer and a vital food source for birds throughout the winter.
The corn bunting population in Fife experienced a significant decline in previous decades. Through this initiative and other complementary conservation projects, that decline has been reversed, with the recovery of corn buntings in East Fife now well documented.
Delivered in partnership with the RSPB, this project demonstrates how targeted habitat management on golf courses can make a meaningful contribution to local and national biodiversity conservation.
