Supporting birds of conservation concern with nest boxes and heathland restoration

The mosaic of heathland, acid grassland, bracken, woodland, and tussocky grassland on the golf courses provides nesting, foraging, and wintering habitat for a diverse range of birds, including 9 species of conservation concern.

Numerous nest boxes have been installed on trees around the golf courses to support common and widespread species such as great tit and blue tit, and heathland restoration has also helped to support nightjar, an amber-listed species of conservation concern, with three male territories recorded in 2023.
