At The Duke Golf Course in Nistelrode, sustainability plays a central role and comes to life in practical and meaningful ways. Across the course, dozens of birdhouses have been carefully installed to support local wildlife.
These birdhouses are crafted with great dedication by Vogelwacht Uden, an organisation of passionate volunteers. What makes them even more special is the material, as they are built from reclaimed fencing, giving discarded wood a valuable second life.
In total, the course hosts 33 nest boxes for tits and 38 for starlings. Each year, these boxes are monitored, providing valuable insights into the development of bird populations on and around the course.
This initiative not only enhances biodiversity but also delivers practical benefits. Birds such as tits and starlings naturally help control harmful insects. In this way, The Duke works in harmony with nature to maintain a healthy and sustainable golf course, where people and wildlife thrive together.
