Sandmartins get their own bunker in the run-up to The Open

Its the 150th Open Championship this year, in case you didn't know, and in the run up to the event, the Old Course is very busy with golfers wishing to sample a bit of magic soon to be reserved for the world's best. The course is also rather popular with Sandmartins who in previous years have nested in the bunkers. To prevent these most welcome birds from taking up residence in the most inappropriate places, the bunkers have all been netted and will be until a few days before the event.

We love having Sandmartins and to compensate we constructed two bunker-like cliff faces well away for golf where they can raise their young over the summer months. Accommodating wildlife can be a simple thing and a little effort can support a good round of golf and a decent nest site. The new nest sites are looking good and we have had at least 3 pairs taking up residence. Good luck to all who play the Old Course and to our Sandmartins families.
