At Royal Queensland, all course waste is managed by the greenkeeping staff and is handled separately from waste generated by the clubhouse, pro shop, and office. Bins located on each tee and at the driving range tee are emptied daily. When we noticed an excessive amount of plastic waste coming from these bins, we implemented a waste separation and recycling program to better manage this. This approach has several benefits: it reduces landfill waste, helps conserve resources, and contributes to a cleaner, healthier environment across the course.
Tim Peters (Foreman) selected the Scouts as our recycling partner to ensure that any funds generated from recycling would support youth development. By keeping recyclables and general waste separate, we also reduce our overall disposal costs and streamline waste management operations, making collection and processing more efficient for our team. This program demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and provides an opportunity for golfers and visitors to participate in responsible waste practices, fostering a sense of environmental awareness.
