The original grass species used in the rough area of the course was a cool-season grass species. The grass bed in this area was mainly clay, with poor drainage and permeability.
Recently we reverted to Chinese knotweed, a warm-season grass that is more resistant to pests and diseases, more drought-tolerant and less costly to maintain. During the hot summer months, the grass is much less susceptible to disease, insects and weed damage than the original grass, Early Grass. Also, because Chinese knotweed is dormant from mid to late September to early May in Weihai, the true growing season is only 4 months.
