Water use is essential to keep our courses in optimum playing condition, however, its responsible use has never been more important. Our irrigation system is 25+ years old and prior to the appointment of a dedicated Irrigation Technician last year, we relied on contractors to make repairs and upgrades. Over the last year, our technician Rob Courrier conducted a full audit of the system, recording the model, nozzle types, arcs and electronic station numbers of every sprinkler on the site. This information was then used to update and synchronise the GTI Trident computer program to ensure what we had out in the field matched perfectly with the database.

This summer should result in improvements in more accurate and targeted watering programmes and therefore a reduction in the water requirements. In addition, sprinkler heads around the tees of both courses have all been replaced and any leaking or damaged valves and isolation points replaced. In addition, we use a POGO weather station and moisture meters providing parameters that can help us adjust our irrigation accordingly. All these upgrades will help to prevent leaks, water wastage, and bigger costs in the future.
