Le Golf de Sion a réussi à transformer une faiblesse en une force, une chance, une opportunité. Effectivement, dès la construction du parcours 18 trous, les données étaient claires : 2 puits de pompage alimentant en eau potable la ville de Sion et ses plus de 30’000 habitants se situaient au milieu de notre parcours. Il fallait donc protéger la nappe phréatique située sous près de 60% de notre parcours. On aurait pu penser au début que cela serait une faiblesse, car nous étions limités dans l’usage préventif des pesticides. Au fur et à mesure du temps, et avec le suivi hydrogéologique mis en place depuis maintenant plus de 20 ans, nos équipes de greenkeeping ont réussi à réduire drastiquement l’usage des produits phytosanitaires, en stoppant l’usage préventif et en n’utilisant plus que quelques grammes de principes actifs pour quelques rares usages curatifs admis. De cette faiblesse, nous en avons fait une force, une chance et une opportunité pour la nature, la biodiversité et la réduction des pesticides, sans compromettre la qualité d’entretien du parcours. Comme quoi, c’est possible !

The Golf de Sion has succeeded in transforming a weakness into a strength, a chance, an opportunity. Indeed, as soon as the 18-hole course was built, the facts were clear: 2 pumping wells supplying drinking water to the town of Sion and its more than 30,000 inhabitants were located in the middle of our course. It was, therefore, necessary to protect the water table located under nearly 60% of our course.
At first, one might have thought that this would be a weakness, as we were limited in the preventive use of pesticides. Over time, and with the hydrogeological monitoring that has been in place for more than 20 years, our greenkeeping teams have managed to drastically reduce the use of phytosanitary products, stopping preventive use and using only a few grams of active ingredients for the few rare curative uses that are allowed. We have turned this weakness into a strength, a chance and an opportunity for nature, biodiversity and the reduction of pesticides, without compromising the quality of maintenance of the course. Just goes to show, it is possible!
