Abama Golf successfully reduced its irrigation water consumption by approximately 10% in 2025, exceeding its original target of a 5% reduction.
This achievement was made possible through a combination of measures implemented over recent years, including the replacement of turfgrass with lower water-use varieties, optimisation of irrigation scheduling, and the full operation of an upgraded irrigation system. Continuous monitoring and adaptive management have also ensured that water is applied only where and when it is needed.
As a result, total irrigation water consumption fell from 910,075 m³ in 2024 to 816,413 m³ in 2025, demonstrating the effectiveness of these initiatives while maintaining high-quality playing conditions across the course.
Water conservation is a key priority for Abama Golf, particularly given the need to protect scarce natural resources in a semi-arid island environment. The results achieved in 2025 highlight the club’s ongoing commitment to responsible water management and continuous environmental improvement, helping to secure the long-term sustainability of the course.
