Recycling to educate local school children

We have a long-term vision at Mortonhall Golf Club to build relationships with local schools and connect with the community. A project we are currently working on is educating our neighbouring primary school of the importance of recycling and the environment, with the help of bird boxes we have built using leftover wood and pallets from turfing work we have carried out. We have built and installed 24 bird boxes out on the course, which we hope will help educate and keep the children interested along the way. We want them to get involved in the project, so each primary class sponsors three boxes on the course and we will keep them updated on any developments in regards to birds nesting and eggs hatching. Going forward we plan to get them to decorate the next batch of boxes we build and show them how we make them to give the kids a connection with the project, also providing on-site education walks and talks to highlight what we are trying to achieve and how important it is to recycle.
