In the ongoing efforts to protect the Strandveld biodiversity at Atlantic Beach, there has been an intensified effort to remove alien vegetation and invasive non-indigenous species in our conservation and landscaped areas.
This includes a targeted removal of fast-spreading species such as the Manatoka tree, Inkberry, and Port Jackson — invasive plants that threaten the delicate balance of our local Strandveld ecology. In the areas where the Manatoka's had been successfully removed, our team planted five Milkwood trees (Sideroxylon inerme). The Milkwood is indigenous to our coastal Strandveld and a tree with a rich history in South Africa.
Did you know that the Milkwood is the Tree of the Year 2025 in South Africa. Milkwood's can grow to between 10 - 15 metres in height and are a protected tree in South Africa. One area that the Milkwood's were planted was adjacent to the 18th green. They are already significant and well-enjoyed beacons, raising awareness of our collective role in protecting and respecting the Strandveld.
